Layla mattress Construction

So, what is the Layla mattress made of?

Layla mattress structure and layers

Layla features a 10’’ memory foam mattress, yet it stands out from the rest due to the type of memory foam, and the amount that is used. In particular, it consists of three sections and only two types of foams, as the designers tried their best to create a mattress with as few layers as possible:

Layla is distinct in that the center of the mattress it features 6 inches of high-density convoluted base foam to support the sleeper and keep everything intact. This base foam also prevents from sinking through and keeping cooling effect in mind.

On both sides of the base foam are two copper infused, highly resilient premium memory foam layers: the soft side is 3 inches thick, while the firm side is only 1 inches thick. This means that Layla is equipped with a total of 4 inches of high-density premium memory foam infused with copper cell technology, whereas traditionally companies use anywhere between half an inch to 2 inches of a basic mid-density viscoelastic memory foam. The soft layer sits on the convoluted side of the base foam, while the firm side sits on top of the solid portion of the base layer making it even firmer. The beautifully crafted cover wraps the mattress.

Although it has never been used before, copper is a great material for mattresses since it contains anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties to help relieve pain. Therefore, the use of copper reduces joint inflammation and helps ease joint pain and stiffness. Interestingly enough, people wear copper bracelets to improve their body’s blood circulation, so these benefits come when used for a mattress as well. Copper is also a thermal conductor, meaning that it’s good at transferring heat from a hot place (your body) and dissipating it into a cooler place (the room), with the result of providing a constant cooling sensation.

The Layla mattress comes with two firmness levels – soft or firm. The innovation about it is how these two options are available on the same mattress. You heard right!

While with other brands you need to order your mattress and state which firmness level is suitable for you, the experts at Layla thought differently, bringing double-sided (or flip) mattresses back. One side is soft, and the other is firm. A lovely feature if you ask us!

In this respect, Layla does not adopt the notion that one mattress can cater for a universal feel. The creators of Leesa suggest trying out one side for a month or two, flipping and switching to the other for another month or two.

The soft side of Layla seems to rate between 3 and 4 in the firmness scale, which is slightly softer than other popular mattresses on the market.

On the other hand, the firm side is still comfortable and supportive, being in around a 6 or 7 out of 10, with 10 being the firmest.

Tip: How can I easily change Layla’s firmness?

Keep in mind that when Layla comes out of the box is configured to the soft side. This means that if you prefer a firm feel, you must:

  1. Unzip and remove the Layla mattress cover;
  2. Flip the actual mattress (core) so the top part is now facing the floor;
  3. Place the cover back on with the soft fabric side facing the ceiling and zip.

It seems that all it takes is 10 minutes to make this switch and users are happy to spend this time in order to have the feeling they prefer.

Value for money

The Layla mattress definitely comes at a very attractive price for what it offers. In fact, it delivers far more value than other famous competitors. The mattress comes in a relatively small box, it expands quickly and is ready for use almost immediately. Other sizes available are:

Twin $599

Twin XL $699

Full $799

Queen $899

King $999

California King $999

Layla Beds come at these great prices because they eliminate the middleman and ship directly to customers.

A nice and meaningful touch is how Layla contributes a portion of all sales to the San Francisco homeless shelters.

Sleeping experience

One thing you shouldn’t worry about is sleeping hot with Layla. Its special copper infused foam mattress succeeds to maintain a cool effect as copper is a cooling agent and this is why copper pipes are used for many mechanical cooling systems.

In addition, the Layla is made with a convoluted base layer which allows for breathability and airflow across the bed.

The most impressive feature of Layla’s with respect to cooling is the THERMOgel cover. Layla is the only mattress which targets the perspiration issues during sleep, with this type of sophisticated solution. The THERMOgel cover reacts to the body’s sweat and activates a cooling agent which will then reduce the body’s temperature giving you a better and deeper sleep.

Based on consumers’ reviews, Layla seems to be among the coolest or quickest to cool down.

Motion Transfer

Based on our research and testing, you shouldn’t worry about motion transfer with Layla. There is almost zero motion transfer when it comes to this mattress and therefore having a sleeping partner that tosses and turns, won’t cause problems in your sleep since you won’t feel a thing of his/her movements.

Although Layla like many foam mattresses has a slight “new mattress” scent upon unboxing, which usually lasts for the first night, this smell reportedly dissipates the next day or so.

Nevertheless, you should not be concerned about toxic off-gassing as Layla complies with all standards to ensure the mattress is free of petroleum-based foams and instead uses water or food-based solutions.

Layla is consistent with eco-friendly standards and premium CertiPUR-US® certified foams targeting at superior support, restful sleep and a healthy lifestyle minimizing any negative environmental impact. This certification ensures the materials are free of chemicals, gasses, ozone depletes, PBDE flame retardants, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) for indoor air quality.

Layla is delivered free of charge at your doorstep in a box-style and is easy to unpack and place it where you like.

Actually, Layla is all box and no spring. You can break down the cardboard packaging, then fit it together in interlocking squares and there you have it: a bed stands that’s sturdy enough to hold up to 1,500 pounds, according to its creators. It’s not as complicated and you don’t require tools to do it.

Layla comes with a strong return policy at 120 night free returns. Since Layla is committed to donating the returned mattress to a local charity, you will receive a full refund within 5 days of returning your mattress.

Layla also features a lifetime warranty policy, which is pretty comfortable and normally there are no issues with returning your mattress no questions asked. The only reason you might be denied a mattress replacement is if your Layla was purchased for commercial use, in other words, rental properties, motels, hotels or other non-authorized non-personal use.

Layla Mattress Warranty

If we had to choose, definitely a highlight of Layla’s would be the copper-infused memory foam. With great benefits like improving blood circulationreducing pain resulting from joint inflammation, and being a good thermal conductor keeping you cool at night while sleeping on a memory foam mattress, Layla succeeds to provide maximum comfort and support.

Further to these, another highlight is definitely the THERMO-gel technology used on the cover of the Layla mattress, which results in a constant cooling sensation.

Final Verdict

Layla has been designed using premium quality and healthy sleep in mind. Indeed, it offers full comfort with its innovative structure and technology. In this respect, we would expect that based on its specifications and luxury feeling, Layla mattress would cost far more than it does now. So it’s definitely worth the buy!
